Steven Davies

No major American athlete has come out of the closet yet, but cricket star Steven Davies is just the latest British athlete to announce that he is gay. "I'm comfortable with who I am—and happy to say who I am in public," Davies tells the Telegraph. His openness about his sexuality is significant because Davies is thought to be an up-and-coming star; Britain’s other openly gay athlete, rugby player Gareth Thomas, is thought to be on the tail end of his career, while other athletes came out only after they retired. Davies says his teammates have supported him so far. - DBeast

The Bean Eaters

They eat beans mostly, this old yellow pair.
Dinner is a casual affair.
Plain chipware on a plain and creaking wood,
Tin flatware.

Two who are Mostly Good.
Two who have lived their day,
But keep on putting on their clothes
And putting things away.

And remembering . . .
Remembering, with twinklings and twinges,
As they lean over the beans in their rented back room that
is full of beads and receipts and dolls and cloths,
tobacco crumbs, vases and fringes.

Prince Harry @ Big Boobs

A dishevelled and bleary-eyed Prince Harry leaves a gay bar at 3.30am on the weekend. But female fans of the 26-year-old Royal, a confirmed ladies’ man, needn’t worry. Harry had been at Big Boobs Bar to celebrate a female friend’s birthday. He had a few drinks and saw a burlesque show, then left with his armed protection officers. One club kid said: “Harry was with girls and fellas, having plenty of laughs.” - Jish Layton, Doily Mirror

John Galliano arrested for alleged antisemitism

Fashion designer John Galliano has been arrested in Paris after allegedly making antisemitic remarks. French police officials told AFP that the British designer was taken into custody for “minor violence”. Mr Galliano, the chief designer for fashion house Dior, was said to have accosted a couple while they were eating at a café in Paris’ Marais district. police spokesman said witnesses reported that Mr Galliano had “sworn heavily” and used “anti-Jewish insults” before he attacked the couple. The designer has been released pending charges but the spokesman said it was unclear what had prompted the incident. - Jennifer Lipman THE JEWISH CHRONICLE

Galliano responded by bringing a suit for "defamation" against the couple, his lawyer Stephane Zerbib said late Friday, just days before Paris Fashion Week starts. Galliano's lawyer told AFP the designer "formally denies the accusations of anti-Semitism made against him." - Charles Onians AP
